Penang M5
Penang M5 durian is an uncommon durian mostly grown in Balik Pulau on Penang island.
While the husk is usually green, it can sometimes come with an obvious yellow tone like a lighter version of tung lai.
It is also sometimes referred to as ang bak kia. However, this does not mean that it is the same durian as ang bak kia. It uses the generic meaning of ang bak kia referring to red flesh kid. A few other durians also carry this nickname, such as baba ang.
As most durianers should have guessed, this durian has red flesh. Not in the red of khun poh, but somewhere between ang jin and ang bak kia.
The taste is subtle, with a hint of bitterness.
