Puangmanee is a durian that originate from Chanthaburi Thailand.

The name is supposedly partly a tribute to the owner whose name was “Manee”.

A farm in Pengkalan Hulu of northern Perak has ignited interest in this durian in recent years. They have renamed it crocodile egg due other small size and pointed bottom resembling that of crocodile eggs. The Chinese name is ry yu dan (鳄鱼蛋) or telur buaya in Malay.

The durian with it’s new moniker became a champion durian in Malaysia in 2026. But it’s worth noting that this durian had previously also won several competition in Thailand. It has already been recognised as a durian with real pedigree.

Features of puangmanee durian

The size of puang manee is typically small that seldom hits 2kg.

The flesh is usually yellow bordering on orange. But because this durian has been around for ages and is widely planted, we can often find them in colour hue that are not the typical yellow-orange it is known for.

The fruitlets are small. While the seeds are big if we are compare it with the size of the fruitlets. In a way, I find that these features remind me of lipan. But of course when we factor in the other attributes of it’s appearance, it looks nothing like lipan.

Like musang king, puangmanee often has it’s seeds popping through the flesh.

The taste is smooth and sweet while containing a nuttiness within.
