Black husk is a rare durian that originate from Penang. The Chinese name is hei ke (黑壳) or hor kak in Hokkien dialect.

It got it’s name from the colour of the husk, which although is green, can appear black from far away.

The thorns are considered slim and rather uniformed throughout the husk.

The most unusual attribute of this durian is that the husk is rather soft. So flexible that you can bend it easily if you exert a little strength on it. It’s almost like a silicone mould use for baking.

The fruitlets are yellow with a dark undertone.

This is a sweet durian. But not the type of sweet you associate with candy.

The sweetness is more like a blend of honey and maple syrup. So sweet that I would describe it as sharp sweetness. Yet delightful for the sweet tooth.

While most seasoned durianers lean towards bitter durians, I’ve seen many who love black husk as well.

Those who love sweet durians would undoubtedly find this amazingly delicious.
