Starfruit Durian
Starfruit is a rather rare durian found in Penang. The mandarin name is yang tao (杨桃). In Malay, it’s called belimbing.
As you might expect, it got it’s name for it’s husk resembling that of a starfruit.
It is also sometimes referred to as 737. This nickname supposedly came as a tribute to the registration number it got when the owner first entered it into a local durian competition.
The fruitlets are of a very thin yellow colour. Almost into the arena of white.
The flesh is also thin, especially when you compare it to the size of the seeds.
The taste of star fruit durian is considered mild. So it’s not going to be able to satisfy your durian cravings if you can only get high on high intensity durians.
This is the type of durian that is more suited to join you for afternoon tea. Not for dinner.
