Nian Nian Durian
Nian nian is another rare durian of Penang island.
The word nian is the pronunciation of the Chinese word 念. Which can carry numerous meanings when used with other words.
But the meaning in this name (念念) is that of longing or missing. Like how much you miss this durian 4 hours after having it. Longing for it like a crispy toast longing for a kaya spread.

Nian nian is a kampung durian. The tree is several decades old in the Bukit Genting area.
If you want to try it, you will most likely not be able to get it anywhere else.
The fruitlets of nian nian durian is as good as white.

Very often when it comes to “white” durians, we can make out a light yellow hue. Or something like off-white and ivory such as black pearl.
This is not the case with nian nian. This thing is white. You might not call it pure white, but it is definitely a tone of white. Not something I would describe as off-white.
The aril is soft. While the main taste is bitter with subtle sweetness within.
I would say that there’s no unique feature in this durian in terms of the taste experience. Yet it is still a good durian nevertheless.
